What is pericutaneous space?

Pericutaneous space is the area beyond our skin in which our bodies anticipate touch.

A type of micro-social space, pericutaneous areas extend as much as a few inches beyond our body, and can trigger the firing of touch-based neurons. The SHLC measures this distance at 3 inches from the fingertip.
